The beginning of 2026 marks a period of numerous cultural events connected with Oulu 2026 – European Capital of Culture. One of the first highlights of this important cultural celebration was the reopening of the Oulu City Library after a long renovation.
Through the workshop “In the World of Comic Books”, the Association of Poles in Northern Finland became part of this significant event for the local community.
The beautifully renovated library attracts crowds of visitors every day, and our workshop also aroused great interest among the local, highly international community.
The Association of Poles in Northern Finland prepared Polish and English translations of the story “A Colourful Day of the Moomins” by Tuula Korolainen. After a short introduction, the participants were divided into language groups according to the children’s preferences. Our wonderful volunteers – Anastazja, Sandra and Iina – read the beginning of the Moomin story to the children.
The task for the youngest participants was to create a comic showing what happened next.
Pencils, crayons and paper quickly went into action, and the children came up with truly wonderful ideas for new Moomin adventures. With the warm support of their caregivers, unique and imaginative stories were created – each one different and special.
The event proved to be a great success, and our Association was invited to organise further children’s events in cooperation with the City Library. We are very happy to take advantage of this opportunity in the coming months.
