The end of the year is always a time full of exciting events for the Association of Poles in Northern Finland — and this year will be no exception!

Join us and let’s spend this time actively!

📅 Sunday, November 9, 2025, at 16:00
📍 Kumppanuuskeskus, Kansankatu 53, Oulu

On the occasion of Polish Independence Day, we warmly invite the Polish community in Oulu to a special event dedicated to reflecting on freedom – its meaning in Polish history and in the lives of Poles living abroad.

The meeting will begin with a historical presentation about the events that led to Poland regaining independence in 1918. This story of the struggle for freedom will be accompanied by Polish patriotic songs, highlighting the emotions and spirit of that era.

The second part of the event will feature a moderated discussion led by Arek Ćwiek, speaker and communication coach. The conversation will explore various dimensions of freedom – historical, national, and personal – as well as the experiences of Polish emigrants today. The discussion will also include modern songs inspired by the themes of liberty, courage, and identity.

During the event, we will also screen the documentary film “Niepodległość” (Independence, 2018), followed by a short conversation about how the struggle for independence was portrayed in the media at the time and how it shaped the image of modern Poland.

For the youngest participants, there will be art workshops titled “Where Is My Home?”. Children will reflect on what “home” and “safety” mean to them while creating collages and “maps of my world” that show the places where they feel at home.

As in previous years, the Association of Poles in Northern Finland (SPPF) will provide a small shared buffet. We warmly encourage everyone to bring something for the common table – perhaps a cake, salad, or snack to share with others.

Let’s come together to celebrate one of Poland’s most important national holidays, reflect on the meaning of freedom, and enjoy this special time with the Polish community in Oulu.

*Event co-financed by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Helsinki as part of the Polish community funds of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland.

📅 Sunday, 23 November 2025 & Sunday, 14 December 2025
🕛 Time: 14:00
📍 Nallikari – Beach Parking Area

It’s time for another round of active get-togethers with SPPF! This is a perfect opportunity to take a break from everyday duties, breathe in the fresh air, and spend time with friends.

We’re planning once again to go for a walk along a scenic, approximately 5-kilometre trail in the Nallikari forest. The route is designed to be friendly both for energetic kids and for those who prefer a more relaxed pace.

It’s not just a walk – it’s also a wonderful chance to chat, make new friends, and strengthen our Polish community in Oulu. There will be time for laughter, sharing experiences, and simply enjoying nature together. And who knows — if the first snow has already fallen, maybe we’ll get to build a snowman and have a snowball fight! ☃️

👉 Bring comfortable shoes, something to drink, and, of course, a good mood!
Don’t forget your cameras or phones — the Nallikari forest looks magical at this time of year and offers plenty of photo opportunities.

For the fifth time, the Polish community together with their families and friends will have the opportunity to celebrate this special time of joyful anticipation before Christmas.

This year, we’ve decided to spend this December afternoon baking and decorating everyone’s favourite gingerbread cookies, while listening to the most beloved Christmas carols and holiday songs.

With a bit of luck, Santa Claus himself will visit us again this year — and we hope he’ll bring small gifts for everyone! 🎅
