Another year proves that our Polish community in northern Finland never disappoints!
For the fifth time, we gathered to welcome Saint Nicholas together — accompanied by Christmas carols, children’s laughter, and the aroma of festive treats — and above all, to enjoy the unique atmosphere that precedes Christmas.
This year was no different. Our youngest participants had a wonderfully busy afternoon. First, under the skillful guidance of our irreplaceable Anastazja, they created and decorated clay Christmas ornaments, which will soon hang on their home Christmas trees. Later, rolling pins and all kinds of cookie cutters went into action as the children made gingerbread cookies. After baking, it was time to let their imagination run wild — decorating the cookies with colorful icing, sprinkles, little hearts, and anything else they could find. There was no shortage of fun or laughter!
As every year, we were visited by Saint Nicholas — and as always, he brought gifts for our well-behaved Polish children. Of course, they had to earn them by singing the carol Przybieżeli do Betlejem together. And it was truly beautiful!
Adults, meanwhile, enjoyed warm conversations, cups of hot glögi, and — most importantly — the delicious treats on our festive table: a beautiful poppyseed cake, a wonderful cheesecake, chocolate cake, joulutorttu, a variety of cookies and chocolates, as well as classic savoury dishes like fish in Greek sauce, smoked salmon, salads, freshly baked bread, and many other snacks… As on every Polish table, there was plenty of everything!
But above all, what mattered most was spending another wonderful evening together and warmly wishing each other Merry Christmas!
