SuperPark in Oulu – Movement, Emotions and Children’s Development
On 27 September 2026, a three-hour group workshop took place at SuperPark in Oulu, Finland, with 11 children participating. The choreotherapy workshop was organised as part of the project “Language of the Heart – Art Therapy in Teaching Polish to Children Living Abroad”. It combined physical activity with the development of creativity, body awareness, and the ability to recognise and express emotions.
During the workshop, the children explored how movement can become a way of communicating feelings and expressing themselves. Colourful scarves inspired them to create their own movements and dance sequences reflecting emotions such as joy, calmness and energy. Jumping expressis encouraged movement-based experimentation, group play and coordination exercises.
An important part of the workshop was discovering individual abilities. Each child had the opportunity to demonstrate their own “superpower” – a special jump, the ability to maintain balance, strength, speed or flexibility. The other participants enthusiastically imitated their peers’ ideas, learning mutual respect and cooperation along the way.
The trampoline activities helped the children become more aware of their bodies and improve their movement control. Jumps inspired by rabbits, kangaroos and floating feathers stimulated their imagination and encouraged free expression. The children also discussed how the body responds to different emotions and intense physical activity. They had the opportunity to recognise their feelings and practise calm breathing, resting and relaxation.
The workshop offered not only an opportunity for active play but also a space to develop self-confidence, courage and social skills. Each participant could contribute their own ideas and experiences, discovering that diversity can be a source of shared joy and inspiration.
The activities at SuperPark demonstrated the importance of supporting children’s holistic development. Movement, creativity and working with emotions help children build self-awareness, strengthen self-esteem and develop relationships with others.
The workshop concluded with a shared shout of “SuperPark!”, bringing together a day full of energy, engagement and children’s imagination.
