Exhibition at the City Theatre in Oulu. 12.12.2024 – 25.1.2025
The Association of Poles in Northern Finland had the great pleasure of organizing an exhibition of the renowned Polish-born scenographer and costume designer Anna Kontek.
The artist’s long and distinguished career was closely linked to her work at the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki. In addition to Helsinki, Anna Kontek also collaborated with many opera theaters both in Finland and internationally.
The exhibition Enchanting and Magic. Anna Kontek: set Designer and Costume Designer exhibition presents costume designs, set elements, and costumes created by Anna Kontek for the opera The Life of an Epicurean at the Oulu Theatre. (The Life of an Epicurean – Hulttion tie by Igor Stravinsky, directed by Leena Salonen, 1998.)
Organizing the exhibition in Oulu gave us an excellent opportunity to showcase the work of this outstanding Polish artist within the context of local cultural life.
This special event had a very positive impact on supporting the shared sense of pride among the Polish community, recognizing the achievements of talented Polish cultural figures working in Finland.
The free exhibition, located in the central part of the main hall of the City Theatre in Oulu, also offered a great opportunity for a wide audience to explore the costume and set designs of Anna Kontek and to admire the Magical Charm of her work.
Since the opening on December 12 until the end of 2024, the exhibition has been admired by over 2,000 visitors.
The Association of Poles in Northern Finland would like to express sincere thanks to Mrs. Anna Kontek for her wonderful contribution to organizing the exhibition, the City Theatre in Oulu for making the exhibition possible and for the cooperation, and the Museum of Northern Ostrobothnia for lending the showcases.
The project Polish Community Events in Northern Finland was funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland under the competition Polonia and Poles Abroad 2024 – Polish Community Events and Initiatives.
