May 1st – Vappu in Isokangas

May 1, 2026, Isokangas

On May 1st, on a beautiful sunny day – when spring could already be felt in the air – members of the Association of Poles in Northern Finland together with other representatives of the local Polish community gathered to celebrate this special day for the fifth time and enjoy May Day in the joyful and colorful atmosphere of Finnish Vappu.

As always, our community did not disappoint. The tables were full of delicious treats – including homemade bread, sausages, bigos, delicious apple pie and karpatka cake, doughnuts, sweets, and the Finnish specialty – sima. There were also fresh vegetables and fruits, so everyone could find something for themselves.

During this spring gathering, there was no shortage of happy children. Games like tag, races, and other activities filled the air with laughter and joy. Meanwhile, adults had the opportunity to talk, exchange experiences, and share ideas for upcoming activities and projects.

Events like this May Day gathering are extremely important for our Polish community, and we will certainly continue this tradition in the coming years.
